A Perfect Backyard Elopement

Once upon a time, to use a fairytale introduction, most people thought of elopements as an exclusively Las Vegas concern. 2020 changed everything. About two months ago I received an inquiry for a backyard elopement in March. A former bride had referred Vanessa to me to capture the simple yet beautiful ceremony she was planning in her backyard. Now as we all know in the Covid world- Micro Weddings and Elopements are on the uptick. Weddings are constantly changing and these micro weddings and elopements are so much fun to capture. What makes it even more perfect and fun is the creativity that my couples have for their elopements/micro weddings. They had some snacks for her guests, masks, drinks, and their pups were even dressed for the occasion. Her mother even hand-embroidered tortilla warmers with their initials for a keepsake for those in attendance. It was an absolutely perfect and day, stress-free and easy. Micro weddings and elopements are extremely intimate and I absolutely love that!

I asked Vanessa a few questions after her ceremony and I wanted to share all of her responses with everyone, and hopefully, they will help you decide if a small wedding is right for you! Read about her micro wedding with Abdul below!

Tell me the story of how you and Abdul met in High School?
”Abdul and I met through mutual friends senior year in high school. He literally “bumped” into me in the hallway and we started talking. He would walk me to and from classes.” The rest is history as far as we are concerned.

Why did you choose a small wedding?

“We decided to do a small wedding because of COVID, but also because neither of us enjoys big parties. We just wanted to have something small and intimate with the people we love and care about. “ This is the main reason we see!

What is/was your favorite thing about your elopement/micro wedding?

“We loved how simple the process was. No headaches or worries about pleasing our guests. The ceremony was really just about us.” Vanessa’s father hosted a steak dinner at his house after they got back from their photo time downtown.

If you could offer some advice to a future bride- what would it be?

“Don’t worry about pleasing others. This is YOUR day, enjoy it and make it memorable. “
